April marks the third month in a row that New England has seen record-low wholesale electricity prices, pushed down by both natural gas costs and consumer demand that came in their lowest levels in the six-state region for the last decade.

The ISO and regional electricity market stakeholders created the CLG in 2009 to facilitate the consideration of consumer interests in determining the needs and solutions for the region’s power system. Representing state offices of consumer advocates and attorneys general, large industrial and commercial consumers, chambers of commerce, and others, the CLG meets quarterly and each meeting addresses various consumer issues. The next CLG meeting is June 6.

ISO New England recently added capabilities to ISO Express, its market and power system data site, with the creation of a reports section. The section offers quick, convenient access to current and historical data reports pertaining to the energy and ancillary services markets. This new release helps further establish ISO Express as a one-stop-shop for seamless, automated public data in both graphical and downloadable report form.

The 2011 Annual Markets Report, released by the Internal Market Monitor of ISO New England, found that lower natural gas prices, lower demand for electricity, and higher hydroelectric production levels contributed to a 6% drop in the average wholesale electric energy price in New England last year. The all-in cost of wholesale electricity—including energy, capacity, and ancillary services—dropped 10%. The report assesses the state of competition in the region’s wholesale electricity markets and provides details about market outcomes.

For the first time, the CELT report includes energy-efficiency projections beyond Forward Capacity Market results

The 2012-2021 Forecast Report of Capacity, Energy, Loads, and Transmission, a primary source for assumptions used in ISO system planning and reliability studies, was published this week by ISO New England. The report—known as the CELT—is updated annually to provide the long-term forecast for growth in energy consumption and peak demand, as well as the capacity of resources in New England.
